We planted columbines that did great for a couple years and since then we haven’t had as much luck. These last two winters were hard on plants, though. The late freeze this spring knocked out all of our perennials (including tulips!) except for one mum.

That stinks. Perhaps that is why a few of my mums did not come back.
These columbines were not planted by me, but by a previous renter. Apparently they propagate aerially, so there seem to be more of them every year.
