The idea that the Nephilim are the literal children of fallen spiritual beings and human women is not universally accepted among Christians. Some haven’t even heard of it; others can’t bring themselves to accept that reading of the text. Other theories: genetic engineering, or the Nephilim just means ungodly kings, but not literal paranormal giants.

I personally subscribe to the fallen angels theory, which I think is pretty clear both in universal human tradition and in the Bible.

Posted this tidbit because I find it amusing that this issue, which some people aren’t even aware of, is a sort of scientific one that an organization like Answers in Genesis has to take (or refrain from taking) an “official position” on.

So, IMO, Neanderthals, Denisovans and the like were just human beings. After all, “Neanderthals interbred with modern humans” and the usual definition of a species is if the two groups can interbreed. Evolutionary anthropologists are under a lot of pressure to find new “species” of humans in order to prop up the evolutionary narrative, so any time they find a skeleton with slightly different morphology, they announce a new species.

Think of it this way: The Flood created a genetic bottleneck. All human beings were wiped out except for, according to Genesis, four couples. So that’s taking a tiny sample and then repopulating the world with it. So, we can infer that there was a lot more genetic diversity among humans pre-Flood. That’s why all of us alive today are not just one race, but literally one big family. Even evolutionary biologists say that if we were dogs, we’d all be one breed.
