Headline of the Month: Free the Carousel Horses!

In the last few years, quite a few actual headlines have sounded like jokes … but I think this one is the jokiest of all. In fact, I once saw a comic where a kid, dressed as the back half of a camel at a Nativity display, is “liberated” by PETA.

Him: I’m not really a camel.

PETA activist: Don’t tell me they’ve brainwashed you too!

Now that joke has become a reality.

“Animal-themed carousel sets reinforce the notion that these sentient beings are simply here for our entertainment, rather than individuals with the same capacity to experience fear, pain, joy, and love as any of us,” the letter added.

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a press release, “Children learn through play, and teaching them to have respect and compassion for all living, feeling beings can help create a more just and merciful world.”

Right. Kids will never learn to love animals if they are allowed to interact with … portrayals of animals. They will never want to ride on or care for real horses if they are allowed to ride on artificial horses. We should remove all references to animals from their environment, and then they will become animal lovers.

  1. This article came with perfect timing. My mom is a elementary school teacher and she had bring her class to a presentation of Carly the cow.

What the school did not tell teachers or parents is that Carly the cow is sponsor by PETA and is teach kids about how dairy farming is evil and you should go vegan.

In a subtle protest my mom wear a shirt that said Got Milk. At the end of the presentation the kids got vegan and then went to launch and got their carton of cow milk. Which by law has to be given to school kids who buy lunch.

Okay, that is really funny actually.

I don’t know why people don’t realize it, but eating animal products is actually a far more efficient way to get your calories. You’d have to eat a lot more plant material to get the same amount of nutrition as a smaller amount of chicken or beef. And the animals can eat plants that people couldn’t, taking less nutritious grass and things like that, and turning it into high-density calories for us.
